Why should we engage with Performing Arts?
DRAMA Exploring Character with Ms Sullivan
Ever since humans have existed we have sought to make sense of the world and our place in it. Through the individual or collective process of exploring our innermost thoughts and feelings around a theme or idea, our search for meaning has been made manifest through visual representations, sounds and movement. Throughout time and across cultures these expressions have become codified into various art forms such as “Drama”, “Music”, “Dance”, and “Visual Art”.

The Performing Arts not only presents us with an opportunity to engage with one of the most fundamental questions of our existence, “what does it mean to be human?”, it also activates all domains of learning – cognitive, psychomotor and affective.
The performing arts can be transformational for students of all ages helping them to develop crucial skills and attitudes for the future – confidence, creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.

How does Performing Arts fit into our SISHK philosophy?
SISHK is committed to providing a holistic education for our students from a rigorous academic curriculum to avenues for self-expression and exploration. Performing Arts subjects in our school include Drama, Music, and Dance from Primary 1 to Primary 6. The Performing Arts curricula at SISHK has been designed around the Discipline Based Arts Education (DBAE) framework and Understanding by Design paradigm planned with the end in mind with a focus on the historical origins and development of styles, aesthetic nature, criticisms, and production of art.
Through the process of story exploration, production, games, project-based and social-learning, students will encapsulate and exemplify our school’s values of respect, responsibility, resilience, integrity, care and harmony while developing control of their vocal and physical abilities.
